HavanaSpring (est. 2013) is a digital media project led by the journalists and technologists at WebStringers, LLC. We produce Spanish-language, short-form video content from all areas of Cuba, including: Santiago de Cuba, Holguin, Camaguey, Guantanamo, Pinar del Rio, Ciego de Avila, Granma, and Havana. Our content focuses on the compelling stories and issues of political, economic, and social development in the daily life of Cubans.
Our work explores a new model of journalism that is based around a global story - in this case, the struggle for human rights and democracy in Cuba. Our goal is to build a better user experience of this story by adding context to content, using the latest digital tools of the day. Over time, we hope to add greater clarity, deeper understanding, and more sustained engagement to the global conversation surrounding events in Cuba. All content is transcribed and translated into English for broadcast to a global audience.
